SUMMARY:DR. STEPHEN CHU - Treatment Planning for Complex Cases Involving Dental Implants and Natural Teeth
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Chu received his doctoral degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1984 and his master’s degree in restorative dentistry and certificate in post-graduate Fixed Prosthodontics from the University of Washington School of Dentistry in 1986. \n\n\n\n He subsequently obtained his dental technician certification in dental ceramics in 1996 and ASMDT status in 1998 at New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD). He is the former Director of the Continuing Education in Advanced Aesthetic Dentistry at NYUCD. He is a Former Adjunct Clinical Professor at NYUCD in the departments of \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nLearning objectives: \n\n\n\n\nKnow when to save or extract a tooth.\n\n\n\nKnow when to save or remove and ailing implant.\n\n\n\nKnow when it is proper to place implants into immediate sockets both in the esthetic zone and molars.\n\n\n\nUnderstand the proper surgical and restorative integration for ultimate esthetic success.\n\n\n\nKnow when to use the patient’s own tissue or find a restorative solution with pink ceramics.\n\n\n\n\nSynopsis:The treatment planning of complex cases requires the highest level of knowledge and skill of the treating team. It is an orchestration of procedures including proper sequencing and timing that makes the difference. An envisionment of the final case before starting is required to know where the goal of treatment will be directed. This\, in conjunction with the patient’s needs and clinical situation comprise the decision-making process for what is the best treatment for the patient.  Problems facing the team such as\, which teeth to save or extract\, should implants be placed immediately or in a delayed protocol\, should multiple implants be placed in the aesthetic zone\, when and how to include orthodontics if needed for sight development\, should pink ceramic be used or should ridge augmentation be performed\, should the case be splinted or broken up into separate bridges or individual teeth\, how to provisionalize the case throughout treatment\, and when to immediate load cases versus do a serial extraction case?
